change your life

Did you know there are over 12,000 books on Amazon tagged “change your life”? Here are just a few I found on the first two or three search pages …

  • Change Your Life in 7 Days
  • How to Change your Life in the Next 15 minutes
  • Change Your Life Today With The Secret Power of Color
  • How to Completely Change Your Life in 30 Seconds
  • One Word That Will Change Your Life

If you don’t want to wait 7 days to change your life, you can buy a book that promises to “completely change your life in 30 seconds.” If that’s not fast enough, then someone knows the “one word” that will overhaul everything you’ve learned and become.

Or, maybe your problem has been that you’re unaware of the secret power of color. Fuscia? Turquoise? Plain old blue? It’s not that I have developed bad habits; I’ve just been ignorant of my colors.

So many books promising to “change your life” and yet so little change actually happening.

Unfortunately, even well-meaning Christians can add confusion instead of clarity. How many times have you heard someone say, “God helps those who help themselves”? The implied message is: God will meet you halfway if you’ll only show a little effort.

In fact, the Bible doesn’t say “God helps those who help themselves.” It also doesn’t have “A penny saved is a penny earned.” What the Bible does say is this: “God helps those who cannot help themselves.”

That’s the message of the gospel — God did for us what we could not do for ourselves.

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:6-8
