time to be positive
I have a confession: I am tired of negativity.
Much of our daily dose of news is negative. Every “breaking story” has its own ominous sound track and gloomy graphics. Gloom and doom.
Unfortunately, some of this gloom and doom mentality has crept into the Body of Christ. Not Jesus himself, mind you — his church. The group of people also known as the second incarnation of Christ.
We are living in difficult days. There is no question about that.
But to hear some believers talk, we seem to be living in a day and age where God is acknowledged but noticeably absent. In other words, they still believe in God; they just may not believe he can (or will) make much of a difference.
I disagree.
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” — Hebrews 4:14-16 (emphasis mine).
Quit being negative. You have a great high priest. Hold firmly to what you believe in. Act like you really believe it. Approach his throne of grace with confidence — a confidence secured for you by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The promise? You will receive mercy and find grace in your time of need.
I believe this promise applies to both individual Christ-followers and the church. God is faithful. His word is true.
Stop bemoaning the situation and start believing in the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
